Tenant was envisioned as an alternative to the standard formulas of living with and collecting art. We want to provide our clients with textiles and wallpaper that are valued as collectors' items that add another dimension of meaning and life to the spaces in which they exist. Tenant’s works stand apart because they are designed by emerging contemporary artists who have a different aesthetic approach than established designers do. In that sense their creations exist within the fine line between art and design.

Our goal is to create textiles and wall coverings with meaning. The democratic dissemination of art and the conceptual process of creating art meant to exist in the living environment are central to our mission. We want to give artists the opprotunity to create something that works within their artistic practice while exposing it to new audiences.

ABOUT THE FOUNDERS

Priscilla Polley is both an artist and an arts administrator. She was born in Portland, Oregon and attended Oberlin College, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Brandeis University, graduating with degrees in Music Composition and Fine Art. Since moving to New York she has worked with many of New York’s creative luminaries including Lou Reed, Ian Schrager, Anda Andrei, and Victoria Bartlett. In addition to developing Tenant she is currently working as fashion stylist with an extensive roster of photographers and publications. She is also a showing artist with a background in printmaking and installation. Her interest in the democratic dissemination of art and the changing focus of the contemporary art and music markets were the primary inspiration in the founding of Tenant.
